About

St. Joseph's Hall, as our school was originally called, opened it's doors on January 11, 1911 with an enrollment of 210 with classes through the eleventh grade.  Our current grade school was dedicated in 1951.  The old high school was torn down in June of 1988 and the addition to the grade school was added in 1989.  Currently grades 6-8 are taught in what once was St. Joseph's Convent.

     The 'Good News in Education'

St. Joseph School provides quality Catholic education to children in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade.  Our school maintains high academic standards while fostering the development of Christian morals and beliefs.  Our school offers a computer center to introduce students to the ever developing world of information and technology.  Our computer lab consists of 10 PC's and supervised Internet use.

In addition to instruction in all major subject areas, St. Joseph students are introduced in Religion, Handwriting, Art, Music, Band, and Physical Education.  The student to teacher ratio is 8 to 1.  Our students excel in the classroom and score above the national average on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills

Students are provided athletic oppurtunities through West Holt School District.  Students in grades 7th and 8th grades are able to participate in Volleyball, Track, Cross Country, Basketball, & Football.  Activities throughout the year include monthly visits to the Library and the Atkinson Good Samaritan Center.  An all school Christmas program is presented in December of each year.  Celebration of Catholic Schools Week is held eacher year during the last week of January-to the first weekend of February.

The teaching staff and students continue to be responsible for organizing and promoting various fund raisers throughout the year.  These fundraisers net an excess of $10,00.  Through these fundraisers the students realize school in meeting it's financial obligations.
