Newman Grove High School offers a balanced program of instruction in English. In addition to the usual four years of high school English classes, students can take Creative Language to enhance their writing and speaking skills in a wide variety of ways. Journalism is one of the topics covered in this class.

Juniors and Seniors can choose from several classes: Senior Literature and Composition emphasizes British literature, while Junior Literature and Composition focuses mainly on American literature from Puritan through late nineteenth-century authors. Additionally, during alternating years, World Literature and American literature offer further options for juniors and seniors to develop literature, writing, and speaking skills. As seniors, students also take a nine-week course to develop their public speaking abilities.
Freshmen through seniors also have the opportunity to develop foreign language skills in Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and Spanish 3. These three courses develop not only communication skills but also an awareness of some of the cultural beliefs and practices of various Spanish-speaking communities.
