Detention time is assigned by the
administration and teachers as a corrective measure for certain
infractions of school policy ˆ such as repeated tardiness, class cuts,
truancy, and behavioral problems.
(Elem.) All Discipline Reports will be handled by the classroom teacher
or teacher on duty. All serious
infractions will be handled
by the administrator.
(J.H.) Definitions of Detentions
Class I Detention - Three late papers equal
one Class I detention.
Class II Detention - Behavior
related; also includes detentions
for excessive tardies and Disciplinary
Reports.
Upon receiving a 4th Disciplinary Report, students will receive a Class
II detention and a Class II
detention for every Disciplinary Report thereafter during the school
year.
Class III Detention ˆ Three Class
II Detentions equal one Class III detention. For each Class
III
Detention the student is subject to the following:
#1. The student serves an hour detention.
#2. The student‚s record is examined.
* Suspension may result upon the
student
receiving a second Class III
Detention.
Students serving detention are expected to:
1. report
to the detention room in the Junior High Building immediately after
school,
2. bring
adequate schoolwork and supplies to keep busy for the entire period,
3. report
to the detention room every afternoon EXCEPT FRIDAY at 3:10 until the
detention time is made
up,
4. remain in the detention room until the 3:40 p.m.
dismissal.
Failure to report for detention will result in
additional detention being assigned. Continued refusal to
complete the detention will result in a parent conference and possible
suspension.
Teachers may come to the detention room and
take a student to their classroom for individual help and study.
Whenever possible, students will be allowed a
24-hour period for starting to serve detention time. This is done
in order for the student to notify his/her parents of the detention,
and if need be, arrange for transportation to arrive at 3:45 p.m. on
the day or days of detention. Conflicts with transportation or
jobs will be taken into consideration if the student indicates there is
a problem prior to the detention being served.
Any student who thinks they have a valid
reason for not reporting to the detention room as assigned must be
excused only by the detention room teacher prior to when they are to
report to the detention room or another detention will be added.
Parents may call or speak to the detention teacher in person to request
their child be excused.
STUDENTS WHO HAVE MORE THAN TWO (2) CLASS I OR
II DETENTIONS AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH SEMESTER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO
PARTICIPATE IN „FUN DAY‰ ACTIVITIES. „FUN DAY‰ ACTIVITIES MAY
INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THINGS SUCH AS MOVIE DAY, FIELD EVENTS DAY,
& FIELD TRIPS.
