Atkinson Elementary/Jr. High Administrator

Making Up Work Due to Absence

Making up work is the responsibility of the student.  The student, IMMEDIATELY upon his/her return from any absence, should check with each of his/her teachers about make-up work that might be due.  The teacher will schedule make-up work.

When a student knows ahead of time that he or she will be absent for an excused reason, an advanced written excuse, signed by a parent, giving the reason for the absence, must be presented to the office at least one day prior to the absence.  Assignments will then be obtained from the instructor and work made up before the student leaves.

In the Junior High, the student is to be prepared to make up any assignments, tests, or quizzes that fall during a single day's absence on the day the student returns.  Students who miss two or more days consecutively will have two days for each day absent to make up their work.  All subjects on the student‚s schedule must be listed on the make-up slip and initialed by the teacher when completed even if there is no assignment.  After the expiration of this time allotment, pupils will be subject to a zero from each teacher and detention time assigned by the administrator for work that is not made up.  STUDENTS ARE TO CONTACT THE OFFICE FOR ADMIT SLIPS OR MAKE-UP SLIPS.

Except for illness, pupils are not allowed to make up semester work after the last day of the semester concerned.

In case of an unexcused absence, the student will be given zeros for each class missed and the time absent must be made up.

In cases of communicable diseases, students will be admitted to school only upon a doctor's written release.

In cases of extended illnesses and where assignments are being sent home or to a hospital through the student's teacher, the teachers will agree upon the length of time allowed for make-up.
