Athletic Participation

In accordance with Nebraska Department of Education Regulations and Procedures for the Accreditation of Schools, (006.01D), no student in grades seven or eight may participate in interscholastic athletic contests between schools within a school system or between school systems which exceed four games in football and eight games in other sports.
Tournaments, including post-season tournaments, shall count as
one game for each tournament.
Fifth grade students are not allowed to participate in athletics for either practice or play.  Effective for the 2000-2001 school year all sixth grade students from rural schools, St. Joseph≠s, and Atkinson Junior High will be allowed to practice in all sports with participation restricted to no more than two boys≠ basketball tournaments and no more than two girls≠ basketball tournaments.
Home-school students will not be allowed to participate in athletics in any grade effective with the 1997-98 school year.  (See District 21 board policy No. 5110.3.)
All students and parents should be aware of the requirement for a health physical by a certified medical doctor prior to practice or participation in a sport for each school year.  Under no circumstance will a student be allowed to practice or participate in any extracurricular athletic activity prior to receiving a physical.  (This includes cheerleading)
All coaches must be employees of the school district.  Any deviation from this must be approved by the adminstrator.
