Kindergarten Reading Curriculum

1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of initial letter sounds by pronouncing each written letter and giving an example of a word that begins with that letter sound.
2. Students will identify and discriminate between upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.
3. Students will produce in writing all upper case and lower case letters, using the teacher selected technique with visual assistance.
4. Students will discriminate their own name from other names, and produce their names in writing.
5. Students will identify the eight basic colors and read the words orally.
6. Students will reproduce the written words of a dictated sentence following a model. Students will illustrate the sentence. Students will track left to right as the student reads the sentence.
7. Students will listen and respond to oral messages and one step directions.
8. Students will demonstrate ability to sequence by arranging pictures and telling a story in sequence.
