State Brain Injury Conference

The annual State Brain Injury Conference took place on April 24th and 25th, 2008 in Grand Island with Dr. Tim Feeney as the keynote speaker from New York.  Dr. Feeney is well known for his research and work in the area of traumatic brain injuries.

Members of the various brain injury regional school support teams from across the state of Nebraska attended a breakout session with Mr. Feeney.  He was available to the teams for specific questions regarding educational supports for students with TBI.

The teams were informed of strategies to support students with brain injuries, as well as the importance of team consultation and setting goals.  Mr. Feeney stressed the importance of having the input of the student in designing educational outcomes post injury.

He suggested that allowing the student to actively participate in making choices and clearly defining the steps necessary to obtain their goal is imperative to a positive educational outcome.  Consistent follow up between the team and the individual was also advised to allow for troubleshooting as problems arise.

Plans are already in progress for the 3rd Annual State TBI Conference to be held in the Spring of 2009.  Please check back for more details as they become available.
